How to slave Chaingang to Reaper for reliable video sync 

The answer using MIDI Yoke 

Sorry guys, a bit more searching got me the answer you have to:- 1. Insert -> SMPTE LTC/MTC ... 2. Drag the right edge of the bar to cover the project length 3. Ctrl - F2 and select the Send MIDI option 4. Click io on the channel and select a MIDI Yoke channel as MIDI Hardware Output 5. open Chaingang and select this MIDI Yoke channel as your input You can use Maple MIDI instead of MIDI Yoke and get 12 channels instead of 8 (MIDI Yoke) with the Extra Ports version. It seems you can also do this over LAN, so you can have a separate PC on the same network running the video on its monitor receiving the MTC signal over the network. use Connect Reaper up as above only setp MIDITangle to send the MIDI Yoke to another one running on the other PC, Chaingang will setup the same way as before. I'm going to use this with ReaMote, so my main PC will run the Master Reaper and the bulk of my VSTs and the second PC run my video and extra VSTs if needed on ReaMote ... very nice!!! Stu

Hey Stu - yeah this is pretty much how I do it although I use LoopBe (the free one.. 1 output but that's all that is needed). It's quite useful being able to place the timecode generator item anywhere on the timeline rather than adjusting offsets in ChainGang.. that way once I have loaded the file into ChainGang I can just leave it alone and concentrate on controlling things from REAPER. There are benefits - If I am working on several ideas or subtle variations for the same visual then I can repeat the timecode portion along the timeline. Or if I am working on a file with different sections requiring music then I can add timecode items for the different ranges of the same file in a non-linear way and name the items accordingly. But of course this would all be possible with the video files internally in REAPER if the playback sync worked well. The encouraging part is that Chain Gang is incredibly small and does the job perfectly.. so I'm convinced it must be possible for Cockos to do the same within REAPER. I had thought about suggesting Chain Gang make a VST version - but really I'm more keen to see the video functionality - that REAPER is already listing as an existing feature - working properly.

the other day i imported the video into sonar and used reaper as rewire works great but problem is if you want to record live into reaper then you have to have a playback countoff in sonar which sadly sonar doesnt have lol pretty aggravating because theres so much functionality in reaper - just cant get at it
