Imobiliser problem on my S60

MessageAuthor

This has happened twice now where i pull up in a garage and turn the engine of for a couple of minutes the car has not been locked and the keys were left in the car(one time the keys left in the ignition and the other time the keys were put on the center console) when i try and start the car i get a message saying immobiliser see manual so i have a look through the manual and this tells me nothing so i phone volvo and they have not got a clue what the problem might be and they want me to take the car in so they can empty my wallet. After a little while the car will start after numerous attempts at starting. Any help on this sittuation would be massivly appreciated. Sorry about the spelling.

RE: Imobiliser problem on my S60

I had a similar problem on my S40 a few months back. My local stealership replaced a set of glow plugs, wiring loom and harness, wiring which ran under the radiator because it got corroded and then an antenna ring around the ignition. All to no avail.:rawrrrrr: Someone on here told me to check the battery which I did & it was fine. However my brother had a proper fancy super dooper battery checker (say that whilst drunk) which found my battery was producing only 10.2 volts. This is not enough to keep the immobiliser going apparently. So I got a new heavy duty varta battrey and I've had no problems so far (only been a month mind you.) Dont let your local stealership fleece you, like they did me. Hope this helps.:laughing-smiley-018

For anyone that gets the same problem it turned out to be the starter motor had an intermitent fault so i replaced that and now its sweet as a nut.

RE: Imobiliser problem on my S60

I found out it was the starter by waiting for it to not start and as soon as it started to play up i got someone to turn the key in the car while i proceeded to give the starter motor a good bump with a bit of metal bar and upon contact with the starter motor the engine emidatly started to turn over and started. I hope this is the solution to your problem. If you are gonna change the starter motor yourself give me an email and i'll try to explain how i did it. It took me about an hour but would have been quicker if i had someone to tell me what needed to be removed so the starter motor can be taken of.

I heard someone had a similar problem that turned out to be the battery so maybe for the cost of a new battery it could be worth a try.
