Hi there What kind of format is surround sound delivered in, these days. Is it still the DA-88 machines, and tapes that are used, or what? Thanks for the help. Pindebraende
Yes it is, (DA-88), Chan.1-6 = 5.1 & Chan. 7-8 = Surround; Lt.-Rt. Those days we deliver more & more Dolby Digital, AC3 files on CDR, (as data), or ready to pick op from our FTP server.

The format for the DA98 / DA88's are different for different mixes. DOlby has a spec and DTS has a spec and never the twain shall meet. Check with the company your delivering to for exact specs. L Ls C Rs R LFE Lr Rt - i believe is the DTS requirement... Cheers georgia
BTW, We've been asked to deliver on DA98HR, DA88, ADAT M20, SONY DASH, CDR, Or straight 5.1 and LtRt Wav or AIFF files and AC3 or DTS encoded files .... Most of the time though its DA88 followed closely, lately, by wave files or AC3 encoded files. cheers georgia
I suggest that, if you plan to buy a TASCAM machine and invest money on DTRS delivery format, you have to take a DA98HR model. 24bit and up to 192 Khz is supported and is the perfect integration with Pro Tools HD. bye AJP

Please excuse the newbie question: Does the DA98 replace the DA88 and are tapes made on the DA88 readable? (and vice versa?) I did not see a DA88 listed in the current Tascam on-line products catalog. Thanks
