MIDI delay

MessageAuthor

I am working on a project in which I am constrained to general midi. I am surprised at how much delay I am getting while recording and was wondering if this was a common issue with protools midi. My processor is plenty fast enough. Is there any way I can solve this problem? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

RE: MIDI delay

Yes, i've experienced the same thing. when i first began to really use the PT midi side of things. Whether using General Midi or not you should Go into your preferences and use the midi offset feature. For a session with a buffer of 1024, you'll be putting a number in the region of (minus) - 3453. It is affected by how you route your midi gear into PT, plugins, gear latency, and probably a few other factors too.

RE: MIDI delay

set to 128 and 1 or 0. The lowest possible buffers. Create a midi track with the beats, turn all other tracks off. record a few seconds of the midi to an audio track. Zoom in and match the attack of the audio beat to the midi note. Keep adjusting the predelay until the midi track aligns to the audio track attack exactly. When recording drums, timing is critical and you should record these seperately and with the buffers as low as possible to reduce delay.
