Hi, I have an anime clip encoded at 120fps 704x356 AVC in AVI file container - I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to playback this file smoothly, and if it needs to be remuxed to MKV to do this.
the sad thing is is sometimes they take a non hybrid source and make in 120fps to make it look cool or something.

Yeah I know that. Sad thing is most of teh 120fps caps I see are mkvs, of course most of these people can't seem to deinterlace properly either. Does anyone know how much overheard is added for 120fps content (with drop frames) as opposed to cfr 29.97 material or vfr 29.97/23.976?
Hardly anything, a couple dozen k maybe if the encoder is smart enough to drop the frames properly. If bitrate is too high or it's one-pass it could encode extra frames and then you've lost quality, but as long as they're really indentical modern codecs won't bother.
