Hi all, after searching for ages and looking at loads of 'sheds' for sale I have bought myself a very nice 740se. Totally rust free, mint interior, full volvo service history and 110,000 miles. She had a Volvo essential service at 108,000 miles and she is in fine fettle. She has a couple of running issues which I am seeking advice on. The worst is a slight misfire just off idle which mainly happens on the overrun, back off the throttle in gear and she shunts and 'chugs', hitting the throttle again the problem dissapears. She accelerates perfectly smoothly, just stumbles when I back off the throttle. The car has only done 2000 miles since 2004 and has been stood for a long time. Obviously I shall check/replace plugs, rotor, cap and leads first but I just wondered if there is anything else I should check? Idle speed is a bit erratic, never idles at the same speed twice, could this be connected to the other problem? Also the fuel pump is a bit noisy, can hear it at the rear of the car when idling, anything to worry about? The fuel gauge is a bit erratic too, spoke to the previous owner who used to almost run it out of fuel and then top up from a can.....idiot! Is there a fuel filter on these cars, if so where is it located? I would think it's probably crudded up. That's it! I have to say I'm very impressed with the well engineered feel of these cars, it's my first volvo (after having a few unreliable 'other' makes) and it seems looking at the condition of it that it will last forever. Just love the way the doors and bonnet close so easily and precisely and after 20 years on the road the underbonnet and engine areas are almost like new. I've only had the car a week and I'm already smitten. Thanks in advance for any advice received.
