RE: MAC mini

Important - get the CoreDuo, not the CoreSolo, if possible. It really is about twice as capable for this.

RE: MAC mini

I had a 1.42 Ghz PPC Mini and loved it. From what I've heard the new Core Duo 2.0 Ghz Powerbook's are really close to a dual 2.0 Ghz G5 if not faster. So a 1.66 Ghz Core Duo Mini ought to be pretty nice. Just get as much ram as you can afford and you should have a pretty nice little machine.

RE: MAC mini

The only thing I'm not digging on the Mac Mini duo Intel is that shared memory which is causing some issues with HD screens using the DVI connection. The G4 Mac Mini didn't have these issues and I'm sure Apple is working on it as the plans were to have these Mac Mini duo Intels as a replacement for Tivos and work as a video interface for home theater systems. I still think the iMac duo Intels and G5 refurbs are the best deal on the market at this time. Allen

RE: MAC mini

I'm using a Core Duo Mini and I've got to tell you this thing flies. I was concerned about the integrated graphics card but not anymore. PT runs quickly and smoothly with no choppy payback at all. Also was concerned about the Mini's single firewire port since I wanted to use a firewire drive for audio but also play a movie out the firewire port to a monitor using a Canopus. Ended up buying a Newertech V-Stack from OWC and ran audio out the USB 2 port and the movie out firewire...everything ran beautifully with no lags or overloaded system messages. I haven't really pushed plugin usage, since I do sound design, but all my previous sessions with average plug usage have been no problem. I don't anticipate any issues. Sometimes playing a movie from Quicktime itself will be a bit choppy, but within PT there's no problem whatsoever. Very, very very satisfied Mini user here. Mini is Core Duo 100 gig SATA 4200rpm 1 gig ram
