002 rack

MessageAuthor

I just started using an 002 Rack myself, with a Digital Audio 733 G4, 1.5 G RAM. Demo song played very smoothly, no hesitation, etc. I'd check two things... First, is the 100G your *only* HD? From what I've read, using one HD for both your system and audio files isn't recommended, and would cause problems. Very easy to add a second drive, and not at all expensive - - extra 120G drives at $100 (Western Digital Caviar standard editioin, etc.). Your G4 came with the screws to install the drive onto the carriage that holds your single drive. Second, the 733 chip in the QuickSilver, if memory serves, had little or no L3 cache (I could very well be wrong on this...Apple's site has in-depth info on such things...). If adding a second HD doesn't help, you might look into OWC's new 1.33Ghz upgrade for your G4. Very positive reviews, and the G4 on the upgrade has 2Meg L3 cache. I'd do the drive upgrade first...never enough room anyway! Best, Len

RE: 002 rack

I'm assuming this hard drive is NOT your system drive, it's an additional hard-drive correct? If the answer is NO, then you MUST get a second drive for your audio. If the answer is YES, is this an internal ATA drive? If yes, then have you defragged the drive? IF this is a firewire drive, is it a GLYPH or DIGI drive?

RE: 002 rack

THANKS FOR THE RESPONSES. This is of course a second drive I installed. It was just formatted so a defrag isnt needed. The demo runs and i have no problem with the way its working other than the way the program is doing screen redraws i guess. The bars and beats dont follow along with the music niether do the audio meters they seem behind the music. I recording some test tracked and they worked well im just afraid the more intense my projects gets the slower I will get.
