I am aware of the services since there is the Vipers Pit site that helps your tweek your Windows services However I did read up a lot on this since I do not change OS's that much so I want my systems to be running without any changes to them. Considering I am running my guitar off of Studio One or Reaper with Live FX monitoring through the firewire interface the OS has to be running bare, I do not want anything to interfere with the low latency settings. Many sites around to help you out. I shut some of the services in Windows 7 down, but only the ones I read up on as there are a lot of services which are more complicated to shut down. I am happy with Windows 7, however I did install Windows 8 and I seen way more services than Windows 7. The Interface, the system file rights ( harder to install older drivers with unsigned signatures) I am avoiding Windows 8 all together. The fact that you can not install it on Processors/Mobo without the NX bit on. Terrible...I do not need fancy speedy machines, just dedicated for live usage which means nothing running expect what is needed.
If we are talking about the same Dan, he was delighted about Win8 and how well services had been managed. Some pretty interesting debates could ensue. He did publish some of his OS tweaks later on too. Windows 8 Real World Tests - oustanding Ok, thanks Gerry P for the optimizing link.
My internet connection is awful at present so I cant easily search. Pretty sure it was Danfuerth who did in fact publish tweaks in the form of a text file for win7 and win8 on here, just cant find the thread. And of course MY copy of the scripts are home in the UK.Sorry.
